License Compliance

2D and 3D CAD software vendor

Privately held business, leader in its market

  • Organizational Owner

    CEO
  • Challenge

The Company sells several variations of its CAD products through its retail ecommerce site. There was a significant number of piracy releases and wide scale availability of the Company’s software within the piracy channels. The product pricing ranges from $149 to $1,500, making a traditional direct compliance effort challenging.

  • Solution

The Company deployed CodeArmor Intelligence within its product to enable it to present custom messaging to inform users that their software was illegal and to drive them to a ecommerce to upgrade to a legal license.

  • Results

After deployment and monitoring the CodeArmor Intelligence data, the customer was able to successfully convert non-compliant organizations to paying customers directly and is now in the process of activating automated compliance messaging on a new product.

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software vendor

Billion dollar revenues

  • Organizational Owner

    VP of License Enforcement
  • Challenge

The Company’s compliance organization was acting on existing overuse data from field intelligence and Support calls, but it wanted a simpler way to target customers and prospects for compliance programs. Existing customer profiling was proving difficult to rely on and was resource intensive. Engineering had pursued multiple piracy prevention strategies including acquiring additional software protection to harden their license enforcement functions but the complexity and cost of supporting the prevention strategy was significant and not product wide.

  • Solution

The Company initially integrated CodeArmor Intelligence into two leading PLM products (and added it to two more applications within six months of engagement). Additionally, the compliance team was organized to be able to pursue existing customers that were overusing their licenses as evidenced by the data yielded by CodeArmor Intelligence (the company has discovered that half its piracy comes from existing customers and half is new opportunities). The Engineering organization was able to couple their prevention technology and CodeArmor Intelligence by extending the way they detect piracy. By coordinating with account managers, the compliance team has been very successful in its revenue recovery efforts.

  • Results

Compliance efforts are now institutionalized and resulting in tens of millions of dollars in license revenue recovered annually, new customers and lower piracy rate.
