V.i. Labs Introduces CodeArmor Intelligence for Flexera FlexNet Publisher

Gives Software Vendors Intelligence and Control Over Their Applications Even When FlexNet Licensing is Circumvented or Compromised

WALTHAM, Mass. — September 25, 2012 — The leading software intelligence solutions provider, V.i. Laboratories, Inc. (“V.i. Labs”), today announced a solution for Flexera FlexNet Publisher® customers to generate revenue by taking control of their license overuse and piracy issues without impacting their license management infrastructure, licensed customers, or product functionality and performance.

Flexera is a market leader in license management with more than 3,000 software vendors adopting its FlexNet Publisher solution. Flexera positions its solution as enabling software vendors to keep their “honest customers honest” and to prevent unauthorized software usage. The latest BSA Global Piracy Study revealed that 57 percent of the world’s personal computer users admit they acquire pirated software and that the commercial value of pirated software rose to $63.4 billion in 2011. Clearly, all software applications – even those with license management capabilities – are at risk of being widely pirated, overused and resulting in software vendors losing up to 30 percent or more of their new software license revenues.

CodeArmor® Intelligence for FlexNet Publisher is a direct result of customer demand for alternative strategies to address these challenges. More than two-thirds of V.i. Labs’ large software vendor customers use FlexNet Publisher and have successfully deployed CodeArmor Intelligence to quantify misuse and convert organizations with unauthorized software into long term paying customers. Software vendors who have combined Flexera’s FlexNet Publisher with CodeArmor Intelligence have recovered more than $100 million in additional revenue so far in 2012.

“There is a significant revenue opportunity associated with identifying sources of piracy and addressing them through a targeted and organized initiative,” said Amy Konary, Research Vice President, Software Licensing, Provisioning, and Delivery at IDC. “From interviewing V.i. Labs’ customers we know that the data generated by CodeArmor Intelligence can help companies add millions of dollars to their top line.”

“We tried software protection and additional layers of license enforcement but were frustrated by the complexities they introduced to our customers as well as our support and development teams,” said the director of global licensing at a leading engineering software vendor. “CodeArmor Intelligence enables us to quantify the size of our piracy and overuse problems with data and insights that were previously unavailable and generate new revenue streams.”

Using experience and best practices gained from integrating CodeArmor Intelligence into more than 150 applications that use FlexNet Publisher, V.i. Labs created this new version of CodeArmor specifically tailored for Flexera customers. Key benefits of CodeArmor Intelligence for FlexNet Publisher include:

  • Enables software vendors to detect and report on when FlexNet licensing is circumvented or compromised
  • Automatically and transparently identifies adoption of pirated versions of software by customer and prospect organizations
  • Uncovers and quantifies the extent of customer license overuse
  • Enables and accelerates a software vendor’s revenue recovery efforts through compliance programs by centrally reporting accurate software usage data
  • Easily integrates with FlexNet Publisher with minimal engineering effort
  • Works with any FlexNet license model (floating, concurrent, and node locked license)

“CodeArmor Intelligence for FlexNet Publisher fills a void in software vendors’ compliance strategies when they rely on licensing alone,” said Joseph Noonan, President and CEO, V.i. Labs. “Our mutual customers are adding 10 to 25 percent to their revenues by targeting infringers and recovering revenue from pirated or overused software.”
