V.i. Labs’ New CodeArmor Intelligence 3.3 Delivers Use and Misuse Detection and Reporting for Mac OS Applications

As demand for Mac-based software increases, so do the rates of piracy

WALTHAM, Mass. — October 25, 2011 — The leading software intelligence solutions provider, V.i. Laboratories, Inc. (“V.i. Labs”), announced a new version its CodeArmor Intelligence solution that now supports Mac OS X and allows ISVs the ability to detect and track software misuse and use of applications running on Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems.

Mac OS applications have become a standard within many enterprises today, and as they gain market share, the piracy rates for Mac software also increase.  According to V.i. Labs’ internal research data, piracy releases of Mac OS versions of software applications make up 13 percent of all releases annually.

A recent Gartner forecast calls for Mac OS to ship on 4.5 percent of new computers worldwide in 2011 and 5.2 percent in 2015. As this platform’s market share expands within business environments, the rate of software piracy for the platform also increases. CodeArmor Intelligence 3.3 has been developed specifically to allow software vendors producing software for the Mac to identify non-compliant organizations running unlicensed software and leverage this data to drive additional license revenue through compliance programs.

“Demand for pirated versions of applications running on Mac OS has increased dramatically with the popularity of the platform and the utility of the applications running on it,” said Victor DeMarines, vice president of products, V.i. Labs. “ISVs can now create holistic license compliance programs by being able to track and report misuse of their software and recover revenue lost to adoption of unlicensed software.”

New Features in CodeArmor Intelligence 3.3 Include:

  • Fully operational version of CodeArmor Intelligence specifically developed for Mac OS X versions 10.5 and 10.6.
  • “Amnesty-aware” capabilities that alert end users when they are using illegal copies of software, then guides them through the process of becoming compliant customers. This allows ISVs to convert illegal users into paying customers without personally contacting the user.
  • Collection of additional data to pinpoint the location of where the software is being used
  • Ability to send software use information to multiple gateway servers based on custom rules

Pricing and Availability

CodeArmor Intelligence 3.3 is available now. Pricing is a tiered annual subscription based on an ISV’s product revenue. Companies wishing to learn more about the extent of their piracy problems can sign up for a free software piracy assessment by visiting: info.vilabs.com/free-piracy-assessment.
