V.i. Labs Forms Technology Partnership with Uniloc USA

Partnership Integrates Device Locking Activation Technology with V.i. Labs’ Software Protection Solution to Provide a Strong Defense against Piracy

Waltham, MA — November 15, 2006 — V.i. Laboratories Inc., a provider of software protection solutions for securing high value and mission critical applications, announced today a technology partnership with Uniloc USA, a leading provider of device locked product activation software. The partnership will integrate Uniloc’s patented device locking activation technology, softANCHOR™, with V.i. Labs’ CodeArmor™ software protection solution – providing Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and embedded application providers with a powerful anti-piracy solution.

The technology integration — delivered as a separate CodeArmor product extension — will leverage the software protection capabilities of CodeArmor with softANCHOR device locking, enabling users to prevent overt piracy and license overuse or “inadvertent” piracy. V.i. Labs’ customers will be able to implement the device locking technology without requiring changes to application source code or existing license enforcement systems.

Uniloc’s softANCHOR provides a secure and robust method for preventing the unauthorized installation and copying of software applications. Uniloc’s patented technology is able to activate software based on a unique “device fingerprint” that is difficult to spoof and offers built-in intelligence to prevent unwarranted activations. Leveraging the CodeArmor application extension framework, softANCHOR technology can be easily incorporated into the CodeArmor protection process to enforce CodeArmor protection on authorized machines only.

“The ease with which V.i. customers can apply our device locking technology to their existing software products made this partnership an obvious choice for us,” said Michael Broderick, CEO of Uniloc USA. “V.i. Labs’ approach will significantly increase the adoption of our technology within the high value ISV market and provide V.i. customers with yet another layer of protection against piracy.”

“The two significant piracy issues our customers face are direct piracy attacks that bypass their software license enforcement systems and license overuse caused by spoofing weak device activation approaches,” said Joe Noonan, CEO and president of V.i. Labs. “By integrating Uniloc’s technology with our own, we offer customers a single software protection solution that meets their anti-piracy needs without significant integration work.”

Availability
Uniloc’s device locking technology will be available as a separate CodeArmor product extension in early December.

About Uniloc
USA Uniloc USA (“Uniloc”) is the technology leader in electronic “device recognition” for securing networks, data and digital content. Device recognition is the method of uniquely identifying a user device, such as a PC, server, game console, smart phone or cell phone, by the naturally occurring, inherent physical imperfections of that device, and then incorporating that “device fingerprint” into access credentials or licenses. Uniloc’s technology can identify devices with more comparable accuracy than human DNA. Uniloc is the inventor and holder of the seminal device recognition patent (US 5,490,216), and has over 10 related patents pending.
